Blind emotion

This. Iss. Chris.

Bravo, Chris ("Toby") Sullivan!
Kudos, Chris ("Phillip") Geere!
Hats off, Chrissy("Kate") Metz!

And even 'though Vanilla Yogurt  Parfait girl's character's name hasn't been revealed yet, you know it's crystal clear  the future Mrs. Toby Damon's name is going to be Christine  or Chrysanthemum.

Or the actress who portrays her will have a variant of the name.

(Does she already?  I didn't check)

(You're lucky my phone is convenient..there's no way I would have gotten the spelling of the flower right otherwise)

Jesus CHRIS, did we ever  see some good acting chops in last night's episode.

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS

I'm picturing all three actors naked now, with their well deserved naked Emmys.

(They are naked because of their vulnerability and because they are in my dream, probably cramming for tests they didn't study for.)

I wouldn't mind seeing Justin Hartley undressed, but that's another story for another dream.

OMG, did those writers tug on our heart strings or what!!

Phillip's backstory alone almost sent me to the medicine cabinet, looking for expired tranquilizers.

His ex was..blind!???
She was kind!!???
She was barren!!??
(was she a... Karen????)
guts were spilled!
she was... killed!

OMG, could her life have been any more tragic??

 What,  writers... no tuberculosis?

The writers deftly explained in "Katoby" that divorce can be a good thing., but the marriage counselor scared the crap out of me, and anyone else in a long term marriage, I'm guessing.

I don't overly criticize like Kate, do I?

Do I??

I mean..there ARE  his shoes  all over the floor!  And  his dishes in the sink!  And there's that pesky widowhood during football season.

Again, this is "Blue Valentine" good.  It's "Scenes From a Marriage" scary.

Also, you'd have to be blind not see see how adorable baby Jack is.

(OK..I know. I know....but did I ever claim to have good taste?  Haven't you seen the way I dress and accessorize?)

Jack gets his happy ending, and he and Hailey didn't even have to set up a parent trap in order to get it..

 It's all good.

It's all GREAT and I can't wait 'til the next episode.

Chrissy was given some great material for her monologues.

She had a point (!!) about  those pencil-thin  women that the womanizer Phillip usually attracts. We can see why he fell for a non-pencil like Kate..we ALL fell for Kate.

And Rebecca..

And Miguel..

And...

Wow.  Just wow.

How can they possibly end this show??

I can't even end this blog.

I'll end it by saying I just used the compound word "non-pencil" and it made perfect sense.

Sizzling Fajitas!

My husband has so many morals that he might as well be Gandhi.

We were in a very crowded restaurant on Sunday, where one server was doing the work of twenty.

When I finally got my sizzling  steak fajita, the poor overworked  guy put it on the table's edge, which was a little inconvenient for my fork.

So i picked it up to move it closer..it being the hot meat and veggies in a steaming metal  skillet with a handle.  The handle had an oven mitt, the protective wooded trivet beneath it  did not, but absentmindedly,  I only moved the iron skillet, which put a nice v-shaped tear into the red tablecloth.

I shrugged, blaming the waiter for putting it out of my  reach(I was so hungry!) and Jim literally helped me cover up the crime by putting a glass over the tear, (once the sizzle stopped sizzling)  and a paper napkin under the glass.

The smell of burnt tablecloth was faint at best, but you know what my moral husband did the next day?

He googled the cost of cheap red tablecloths.

He didn't follow up, mind you, he didn't literally rat me out,  but the fact that he was still thinking about it the next day..and the day after...

It's bad enough I ran the waiter ragged with second and third requests for a salsa and chips refill.

(Who am I kidding?  It was a LOT more than three refills)

It's never fun when a sinner marries a saint

This is Me

That. Was. Us.

Millions of us, quivering and crying, gasping for air, in our collective state of grief and relief, wondering how we were going to clean up all the guts we had just collectively spilled.

I usually  need to watch "This is Us" commercial free--it's too intense to have to take a breather in order  to decide what fabric softener I want to buy --so after a brilliant showing of "Abbott Elementary" and "Black-ish" I sat down, at 10:00 PM EST,  to what was probably the most emotional episodes of the series..ever.

This episode deserves an Oscar.

A pop-culture nerd like me does not make mistakes, I know it's a TV show that would only qualify for the Emmys, but I meant what I said:

 This episode deserves an OSCAR.

Grab this writer, give them time to expand the teleplay by forty-sixty minutes, and you have a story that could stand on its own: a story that could grab a Best (Adapted) Screenplay award that is as deserving as all the award love given to "Marriage Story" and "Scenes from a Marriage" or even "Revolutionary Road"  and/or "Kramer Vs. Kramer"(the last example truly inspired the hospital scene when little Billy Kramer got his painful stitches after falling off of a jungle jim)

Last night's episode, "Saturday in the Park" was simply  magnificent.

SPOILERS AHEAD

When Jack left the house, I practically screamed from the  tension, a tension I hadn't felt since I first read the edge-of-you-seat novel "Room" where another adorable boy named Jack made a terrifying  escape.

I wanted to scream, and then I wanted to cry, when Rebecca solved the mystery like Sherlock Holmes herself..dementia be damned, this was a loving grandmother who could have lifted an automobile if Jack had been pinned underneath it.

Mandy Moore's  performance was flawless, as it's been all season.

But then we get those sibling scenes!

It was like watching a documentary.

I am the girl sandwiched between two brothers, and I kept  inserting myself into the scene on the lawn, but mostly for comic relief that was necessary at the moment.

What would my brothers possibly have to say to my husband?

"Why are you keeping our sister up with that snoring?"

"So?  So she lied about how much butter she used in that recipe tonight..shut up and enjoy it, okay?"

The thing is...I saw BOTH Kate and Toby as protagonists and antagonists.

Both were wrong; both were right; both were so  raw and so vulnerable that they might as well have delivered that dialogue  naked.

(I shouldn't have said that, because someone is going to read this, and know somebody who will use  my description to make a hateful comment about Chrissy/Kate's weight. It's unlikely she's healthy at that weight, I'll give you that, but unless we have absolute proof of the character or actress' medical records and lab work, we need to shut up..and concentrate on that naked image without revulsion)

I wasn't a super fan when the series first came on..I liked it a lot, don't get me wrong, but I thought it would be "Parenthood" good, which it really wasn't, at least in the first season, at least in my opinion.

It's "Parenthood" good.

  It's beyond good.

Now, I gotta run and clean up all the guts I spilled on the floor last night.

Maybe I should call in a professional plumber??

That and a nickel will get you a cup of coffee

Just took a wonderful nostalgic journey, which made me miss my parents and grandparents and my hometown of Philadelphia.

Don’t miss the wonderful documentary, “automat” which is comfort food for both body and soul. I think I do remember eating in an actual horn and hardarts, but the last one in Philly closed when I was ten, so am I really remembering it accurately? Of course, I’m sure I remember being six months old, so why wouldn’t I remember eating cafeteria Mac and cheese while watching trolley cars whiz by?

What a joy to see Mel brooks describing culinary experiences, or Ruth bader Ginsberg  looking fondly back at simpler times.

I love when I get to blog about nostalgia, but I realize it will never lead to fame and fortune.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad my mind is still sharp, but that and a nickel will get me a cup of coffee..
