Our wonderful pet sitter, Asha, gave him so much joy and happiness when we on the cruise in January and in Woodloch in February.
She even bravely volunteered to have been the last loving face he saw in case he had passed while we were traveling.. my greatest nightmare.
He loved Asha as much as he loved us.
And today, we’re seeing yet another act of her altruism and deep love for our family, especially for the member we lost four days ago.
Her daughter in law is a vet tech, and our hearts are warmed knowing she’ll gladly take all these donations, and they’ll go to a furry creature who could use them.
It’s a bittersweet purge as I watch her pack the cage, leashes, toys, blankets, medicines, bowls, food, treats, etc. into her car.
We’re not tossing all signs of Luke.. we still have a zillion photos and even more memories, but it’s healing to know a needy animal will be the recipient of so many things that were once his.. and if you knew Luke, or got to know him through my written word, parting with his possessions isn’t something he’d do voluntarily.
We used to ( foolishly!!) tease him and pretend to take something like a bone and say, with what we thought was humor, “ that’s MINE!” until we heard that gutteral growl one day and we both realized, “You Don’t Mess Around With Luke!”
If you hear us from that Rainbow Bridge, Buddy, rest assured that your things will soon be well taken care of.
But there is something that will never ever leave this house, not even a hundred years from now.
And that is simply you.. your spirit .. your essence .
The love we have for our crazy little poodle will never be carted away.
