Sunday
Yesterday had a lot of highs and lows, but more highs, which means this should.. keyword should.. be a happy blog.
If one could legitimately call this stream of consciousness a blog to begin with.
If they have a version of “Bakery Wars” this summer, I think it’d best to make it a GIRL Day.. with my sister in law, daughter in law, and nieces.
Not to be sexist, but I think my husband and son would have preferred a day at the salon to this. And not a sports salon.. I’m talking mani/pedis.
Michelle had to bow out early, Evan did “ boy’s jobs “.. like redeeming tickets for possible valuable items.. I remained scattered and unfocused, and Jim basically whined that he’d never do this activity again.. I think we got the lowest score out of all forty three “bakeries” that participated in the event.
But it’s fun.. you get to give your bakery a clever name, ( we were the Pink Pony Cupcake) and everyone works with the same starting kit.
A styrofoam wheel on which to build your sculpture, four unfrosted cupcakes, two large cookies, a Rice Krispies treat, and several bags of frosting, plus plastic utensils for carving.
Tickets buy you additional items for your presentation.. ( candies, pretzels) and you can visit the craft center to artistically embellish your work.
The thing is, brain power really counts in this event as much as a sweet tooth does, because you’re not given the theme of the event until seconds before the forty minute timer starts, thus chaos ensues.. in the sweetest possibly way.
Yesterday’s theme was to create something you “would present as a Valentine’s Day parade float,” and the creativity displayed in the final presentation was mind boggling, from the team that turned that raw material into a literal ice cream float, to the stunning and much deserved winners, who sculpted a sinking Titanic, even decorating the “ must include in the presentation “ cookie with the words “ never let go” inscribed in icing.. not to mention that iconic iceberg!
My mind went to darker places when thinking up a possible theme, suggesting a Tim Burton nightmare motif, until Michelle reminded me that this is a family resort.
We started off with a theme of the legit marriage between two cookies, and wound up with a convoluted pile of crazy.
But if you’re imaginative and have a knack for decorating and/or outside the box, then this activity takes the cake.
Finally.. a good medal was ours ( deservedly so) in Cash Cab that the three of us attended while Michelle dealt with a headache.
Strangers became friends for that hour of shared brain power, especially the little kids who could confidently name the ten heaviest land mammals without any electronic assistance.
Randy ran the game, and it meant a lot to me when he told me how much he cherished the birthday poem I wrote for him last July, and with tears in his eyes, told me how much his late wife would have loved it.
See??
This is why I write and/or blog.
It’s never been about the money or the ego,
It’s about words pouring out of my heart and onto my fingers.. sincere words..that make someone’s day or year.
Much more valuable than a fat advancement or sweet residuals
After a fabulous dinner, we saw the amazing theme show, “Party in the USA” and the joy in the room was infectious.
There’s something about an entire nightclub getting up from their chairs to join the professionals in a rousing rendition of “Sweet Caroline. “
There wasn’t a dry in the house when all branches of the military were honored while receiving ovations and heartfelt salutes.
And I haven’t mentioned the comic yet, and because of time constraints, I can’t, but we laughed till we cried.
And our eyes weren’t the only places where bodily fluids flowed without embarrassment .
Oh guys.. come to Woodloch!
Screw the expense.. you can’t put a price tag on this kind of happiness.
You owe it to your soul to take the plunge.
One last update: just joined a wonderful family from Long Island for scavenger hunt and broke a personal record.. over a thousand points and the receipt of a shiny gold medal! To see the smiles on the faces of those tiny tots who contributed their share, first timers to boot, made that medal more valuable than anything stars will borrow from Harry Winston for upcoming red carpet events.
Great.. so you’re reading thus far and labeling me obsessive.
Good for you.
What do you want, a medal??
